Tiffany Gonzalez | Property Manager
What do you love about your career?
I love my career as a property manager because I get to wear so many different hats. Sometimes I get to be a forensic accountant, or an inspector checking out roof systems, mechanical rooms, and landscape irrigation lines. Other days, I am out and about meeting tenants to collect rents or discussing daily activities like current economics and plaza life. It’s hard to get bored at this job.
What advice would you give to someone starting their career?
If someone was interested in pursuing Property Management, I would advise them to keep an open mind and not fall into the mentality that a task doesn’t fall into their scope of work. As a property manager, just about any task falls under your scope of work. Somedays we have to be accountants, collection agents, property inspectors, customer service liaisons to our clients and tenants, risk mitigators, and construction managers.
What advice have you received that has helped you in your career?:
Keep an open mind. Don’t be a know-it-all, or you won’t be able to learn new things. Just because someone does something differently than you doesn’t mean it’s wrong. Learn a new way to do something and you’ll know how to do it in more than one way.
Where have you grown the most in your career?
My math and accounting skills have gotten great over the years. I am actually considering pursuing a CPA certification.
What does “success” mean to you?
Success to me means the achievement of desired visions and planned goals. It’s as simple as waking up and making the bed. Everyday that I wake up and make the bed, I have accomplished the first task or first goal of the day. If I do not nothing else that day, I would have at least accomplished that one goal of making the bed. Success is about chipping away at small tasks until you finish, getting you closer to your goals. Currently, I am writing a book. I started at the end of February, 2023, and I’m doing it day by day, one page at a time. I reserve one hour a day towards this goal and hope to have the first volume of the book completed by May 1, 2023. Once complete, I will have been successful in the effort of writing a book. Whether the book is published or not is a separate goal entirely, and that potential success is separate from the success of finishing the book, or from the success of writing a page a day.
What makes a good role model? Have you had one that has made an impact in your life/career?
A good role model is someone who is tough and yet patient; someone willing to get in the weeds with you and to lead by example.
What are the things that have helped you excel in your life/career?
The thing that has helped me excel in life is consistency. Many people can do something once, however, can they do it consistently? Can you consistently deliver stellar service? Can you consistently collect rents? Can you consistently deliver results?
