Home Depot’s new lease of 1.6 million square feet of distribution space at the CenterPoint Intermodal Center in Joliet will complement its existing 657,600-square-foot Rapid Deployment Center to create a combined 180-acre logistics campus with more than 2.2 million square feet under one roof for the company. The new build-to-suit development on 87.9 acres will serve as the company’s Stocking Distribution Center.

As North America’s largest inland port, CenterPoint Intermodal Center offers the lowest dray charges in the region, heavyweight capacity roads, the ability to operate yard hostlers within the park roads, reduced fuel surcharge exposure, direct access to both the Union Pacific and Burlington Northern Santa Fe intermodals, a foreign trade zone and an enterprise zone.

The SDC is located 1.75 miles from Union Pacific’s Global IV entrance and 3.5 miles from Burlington Northern’s Logistics Park Chicago entrance. Upon its completion in the summer of 2013, the SDC will be the largest occupied building in Joliet. It is anticipated the expansion will deliver 500 construction jobs and 300 permanent jobs to the Joliet area.

Dan Leahy, Adam Roth and Casey Baird, withNAI Hiffman’s Industrial Services Group, represented CenterPoint Properties. Jeff Kahan and Steve Kohn with Colliers International represented Home Depot in the transaction.
