NAI Hiffman Brokers Special Olympics Chicago Office Move
Special Olympics Illinois is expanding its Chicago operations and tripling its footprint as it moves offices in the city.
The organization, which serves more than 60,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities across the state, closed on a 20,000-square-foot building at 2324 W. Fulton Ave. in the Kinzie Corridor for $4.75 million.
The move is the nonprofit’s first office purchase in the city. It previously leased a 6,000-square foot office at 820 W. Jackson Blvd. Around 15 employees will be working at the new location.
“It’s like an update and expansion on their Chicago office, and the multifunctional use of the building was everything they wanted,” said NAI Hiffman’s Aubrey Englund, who represented the nonprofit in the transaction.
The newly acquired building will provide space to support Special Olympics Illinois’ growing operational needs, combining office space, ample parking spaces, event facilities and warehouse storage. Private event venue Ovation Chicago will remain a tenant at the nonprofit’s new offices.
The Special Olympics have always been closely tied to Chicago. The nonprofit was born in Chicago as the city held the first international Special Olympics games in 1968 at Soldier Field.
The Chicago Park District’s Special Olympics program is the largest of its kind implemented by any public park district in the country, according to the park district. The program provides over 80 competitions, leagues and sports clinics.
Special Olympics Illinois’ headquarters are in downstate Normal, while Chicago remains a regional office.
