Prominent office tower in Merrillville, Indiana continues leasing streak
University of Chicago Medicine has signed a lease for 2,000-square-feet at 8585 Broadway in Merrillville, adding mental health services to their existing northwest Indiana care options. It represents the fourth in a series of recent tenant additions, according to Brian Edgerton, senior vice president of office services, who has been representing the owners in collaboration with a local partner, Latitude Commercial.
“The ability to offer suburban Chicago amenities in this border state location really sets the building apart,” said Edgerton. “With an upgraded lobby, new common tenant areas, and nearby interstate access, interest in this kind of turnkey class A office space remains high.”
Published figures from University of Chicago Medicine indicate that about 15% of northwest Indiana residents already travel outside that region for health care. The building is already well positioned for such use, given its large block floor plans and proximity to the Southlake Campus of Methodist Hospitals.
Handling Chicago brokerage of the building for about a year now, Edgerton sees the continued potential for expanded occupancy. “As one of the tallest buildings in Lake County, and the only one in a centralized retail and professional corridor, it’s the only game in town.”
