I truly enjoy solving problems. Whether it’s physical construction at my 140-year-old house, messing with bicycles or structuring a real estate transaction, I enjoy creating the solution. I don’t even mind when my fly rod gets tangled – it’s just a new puzzle for me to solve. All real estate transactions have problems and all problems have solutions. I was attracted to the industry for many reasons but I committed to it because it provided me opportunity to have long term relationships while implementing creativity on shorter lifespan endeavors. The lifecycle of most transactions are relatively brief in comparison to the relationships we build, but the excitement for me is that as soon as one problem is secure the next one always emerges.
I view being extremely busy in my career as a reflection of hard work and success, busy certainly beats the alternative. I look at my extremely busy homelife as repercussions of being involved in so many rewarding activities, and encouraging my kids to do the same! My wife Jill and I have 5 boys. Many of our current personal activities involve theirs, and while I don’t get to be home very often for weekday dinners, I cherish the opportunity to coach or be a spectator in any of their endeavors. We have been involved in just about every sport from hockey to water polo. I have enjoyed coaching over 15 baseball teams in the last 10 years in every level from t-ball to AAA teenagers. I honestly prefer t-ball as those kids are just out to have fun and eat dirt, it’s “innocence at its best.” When time allows, I love fishing. I grew up bass fishing but have gravitated towards fly fishing. I try to enjoy a couple trips a year that involve water, warm weather and a fishing line.
